The Western Region Development Council (WRDC) began under Royal Decree in 2006 with the goal of enhancing life and promoting tourism and business in the Western Region of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi which is known as ‘Al Gharbia’. It falls under the patronage His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates, fuelled by the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces.

Vision
To lead the Western Region of Abu Dhabi, Al Gharbia into becoming a model of sustainable economic and social development by setting the standard of excellence in the development of people, enhancement of infrastructure and improvement of enterprises.

Mission
To provide the residents of Al Gharbia with a higher quality of life through promoting employment, improving regional infrastructure and increasing business efficiency and investments. 
 Improving the lives of the people in Al Gharbia is one of the key goals of the Western Region Development Council. Strategy focuses on the development of better education, healthcare and infrastructure. These factors will spur on economic growth, creating greater prosperity for the region.
